The scientific Gospel

In science we talk about “the literature” as though it’s the gospel as though there is no positive publication bias, no cleverly analysed experiments, no faked data, no cherry picking of experiments or images, all scientists are totally honest and not motivated to prove themselves correct or get on in their careers, or generate support for a patent, not prone to make fatal errors, or draw the wrong conclusions.

If it looks, walks and quacks like a nuclear duck…

Then what is it, ladies and gentlemen. WHAT IS IT?

Long figuring

Tiny brains

“It is certain that there may be extraordinary activity with an extremely small absolute mass of nervous matter; thus the wonderfully diversified instincts, mental powers, and affections of ants are notorious, yet their cerebral ganglia are not so large as the quarter of a small pin’s head. Under this point of view, the brain of an ant is one of the most marvellous atoms of matter in the world, perhaps more so than the brain of man.”
